Top 5 Eyelash Serums Reviewed

Long Lashes Eyelash Enhancer by CanGro 3.5mL - our TOP pick
Cangro

Based off our research we believe CanGro’s Long Lashes serum is #1 for Long Lashes. This hero product is Australian made and owned and is packed with vitamins, peptides and antioxidants that work to stimulate, strengthen and condition the eyelashes. It helps nourish and repair your lashes, leaving them looking longer, thicker and fuller in as little as 4 to 8 weeks (full results seen around 12 weeks). With 4 active hair growth peptides and a bunch of other important vitamins, this product saw us grow longer, thicker and fuller lashes in 12 weeks. Best of all, its vegan and cruelty-free and free from all nasties including growth hormones, gluten, parabens, palm oil, sulphates, phthalates etc and great for even the most sensitive of eyes.

Pros:

  • Affordable at only $89
  • Contains 4 x active peptides for lash growth
  • Great results in both lash length and volume (in 12 weeks)
  • Stylish rose gold packaging
  • Australian made
  • Vegan and Cruelty free
  • Hypoallergenic – great for sensitive eyes
  • No growth hormones
  • Can use with eyelash extensions
  • Suitable for eyebrows too
  • 3.5mL tube to last 4 months
  • Easy to use, apply once per day
  • Money back guarantee

Cons:

  • Australian made so takes a few weeks to ship internationally

Lashfood Eyelash Enhancer 3mL

Lovely product, but very expensive for a 3mL bottle at $150! Contains 99.49% natural ingredients, but no peptides which are the key ingredients to lash growth. Lashes felt nourished and glossy, however, for such a high price, we expected the product to work faster, when in fact very minimal results were seen and this still took 4 months.

.

Pros:

  • Almost 100% natural ingredients
  • Vegan and Cruelty free
  • No growth hormones
  • Can use with eyelash extensions
  • Suitable for eyebrows too
  • Easy to use, apply once per day
  • Money back guarantee

Cons:

  • Expensive at $150 for 3mL
  • No active ingredients
  • Does tend to sting the eyes slightly
  • Limited lash growth, if any at all
Bondi Boost Lash and Brow Serum 10mL

Love that this product is Australian made and also on the cheaper side – in fact one the cheapest on the market. But after 6 months of use, we soon discovered why its so cheap! Bondi Boost Lash & Brow Serum uses gentle, all-natural ingredients including castor oil, coconut oil, argan oil and avocado oil, but with all these greasy ingredients, the only thing that grew was the blocked follicle on our eyelids. Not only that, you can’t really apply mascara or makeup on your eyes after applying it each morning as it ends up smudged, half-way down your face.  It also has a mascara like applicator and the serum is applied to the actual lashes rather than the lashline? This could be another reason why very little difference was seen in the lashes after 6 months.

Pros:

  • Affordable at only $39.95 for 10mL
  • 100% natural ingredients
  • Vegan and Cruelty free
  • Made in Australia

Cons:

  • No active ingredients
  • Can’t wear mascara or makeup when using it
  • Limited lash growth, in fact none really
Rodan + Fields Lash Boost - 4mL

Yes, it works and fast. But with a price tag of over $255 you would expect it to grow 24KT gold lashes!!  To be honest, we were a little scared to try this serum, due to the bad reviews it has had (including a major lawsuit), but to be true to ourselves, we gave it a shot. Lash growth was seen very quickly, within 6 to 8 weeks, but the side effects that came with it, made the whole process very uncomfortable. After researching further, we discovered the active ingredient in Lash Boost is a growth hormone, isopropyl cloprostenate, the same ingredient used in medicine for glaucoma patients. Now we understand why this product is unable to be sold in Australia – its super dangerous. With side effects listed as change in eye colour, inflammation, redness and itchiness, watery eyes and more, we killed the trial at 8 weeks as it wasn’t worth risking our eyesight. Sorry ladies!

Pros:

  • It works

Cons:

  • Super expensive at $255 for 4mL
  • Contains the growth hormone – isopropyl cloprostenate
  • Stings the eyes and leave them red and itchy
  • Can change the colour of your eyes
  • Left a red rim around the eyelid and flaky skin
  • Not easy to get hold of, as banned in Australia
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Serum 11mL

When we saw the price tag for Rimmel Lash Accelerator Serum, we wondered ‘would the product work’? Well, after 6 months of use, we can firmly agree – its a NO from us! We had such high hopes, as we love a good Rimmel beauty product, but unfortunately no results were seen at all.  You get what you pay for I guess!

Pros:

  • Affordable at only $22.95 for 11mL
  • Lasted the full 6 months with 1 tube
  • Non greasy
  • Easy to find

Cons:

  • No real active ingredients, except 1 peptide thats so far down the list of ingredients its miniscule
  • Stung the eyes
  • Didn’t work at all
  • Pretty sure our lashes got worse from using it

Our Methodology

tommy-van-kessel-_tnkR2gu3kw-unsplash

Lash serums come in all shapes and sizes. Consequently, there are varying degrees of results from using growth serums. Some do well, but others cause irritation, itchiness and inflammation. None of which you’d want on your eyelids.

Famous prescription brands have remarkable results, but at what cost? Using a medication that contains hormones or one that is used for those with glaucoma can be questionable. It is a personal choice, but some people are rightly wary.

Synthetic hormones can cause all manner of issues in our bodies. We are aware of those little endocrine disruptors sitting firmly in our shampoo bottles. As a nation, we are much more educated on the potential carcinogenic effects of high street beauty products.

But in the quest for longer lashes, it is understandable that many people are willing to try anything and at what cost – both financially and medically?

In order to find the safest, most ethically produced and affordable lash serum on the market, we decided to put a bunch of recommended lash serums  to the test over a 6 month period and this is what we discovered.

There are 4 types of lash serums:

  1. Peptide based – usually a mixture of peptides and vitamins, which is a great combination to nourish the lashes and GROW them too.  This is by far our pick from our panel of experts. These are gentle on the eye, with no side effects, but the peptides are doing the grunt work here allowing the lashes to grow longer, thicker and fuller.
  2. Prostaglandin based – these do work faster, but are dangerous, as laced with growth hormones, linked to hideous side effects such as change in eye colour, inflammation, redness and itchiness, watery eyes and more.
  3. Vitamin based – these serums contain only vitamins and natural ingredients that may help to nourish the lashes, but do very little to grow them longer. You may aswell use water!
  4. Castor oil – does nothing except block the lash follicles and we learned the hard way – ouch!

Customer reviews

This is the best lash serum I’ve ever used!

I bought this like everyone else hoping for longer lashes, well I’m 62 years old and I didn’t think it would make a difference untiI I put mascara on and WOW my lashes are so long and thicker, I don’t wear makeup a lot so I was very surprised at the difference. You can’t notice a difference straight away but you get results especially when you put makeup on… Worth the money……

I honestly really like this product, the only one that I’ve tried that didn’t make my lashes fall out. You can also put it on your brows and I’ve noticed a difference in both my lashes & brows. Can’t wait to order more xx

Our conclusion

We conclude that CanGro has the best Long Lashes Serum in the market today. As far as value for money, no sensitivity, easy to purchase from their website (order arrived the NEXT day) and the fact that it actually works, its easy to see why this Australian brand is taking over the beauty market one eyelash at a time. Highly recommended!
