Krishna Skandakumar has been promoted to Senior Counsel in the New York Investment management practice effective as of January 1, 2022.  Mr. Skandakumar joined Akin Gump last year from the New York office of Clifford Chance and prior to that the London headquarters of Clifford Chance.

Mr. Skandakumar maintains a diverse practice advising private investment funds on their fundraisings efforts and has a particular specialty in end-of-life liquidity solutions and secondary transactions. His extensive experience spans the U.S., European and APAC markets. 

Mr Skandakumar’s move from Clifford Chance was reported as a major coo for Akin Gump given his depth of experience in fund formation law as well as GP-led and liquidity solution transactions.  “Krishna is a rising star in the secondaries market” said a source from an industry insider;

“In a market that is booming, he brings an M&A style, energy and knowledge to deals that is an imperative skillset for private funds, fund restructurings, and complicated GP-led secondary transactions.” 

Mr. Skandakumar added, “the Akin Gump liquidity solutions team was the perfect fit for my practice given the number of great people across the firm and the complementary experience of their specialist teams including tax, ERISA, M&A and regulatory.”

Building off the success of recent years and with news that he recently passed the New York bar, it is clear that Mr. Skandakumar will be looking to further cement his role in the New York private equity and secondaries’ market.
