The recently opened Belles Beach House features a boho, surfing-themed décor with windows overlooking Venice Beach's famed scene.
Its tiki bar design is ideal for Windward Circle, and its proximity to the plaza and the ocean has made it a hit right away.
Between the dining room and its casual lounge spaces, the new addition to the local restaurant scene launched at 24 Windward Avenue.
Larry Bell, a well-known artist and veteran Venetian, produced the restaurant's artwork.
This recent addition is described as "Hawaiian izakaya meets tiki bar" by Nicholas Mathers, founder of the Wish You Were Here Group, which operates the resort. Mather's restaurant business also has locations in Las Vegas, New York City, and other Southern California cities.
Belles was inspired by his travels, according to the native Australian."Island places have always appealed to me, particularly in the culinary sense, because of their attitude to hospitality and living."The term "Hawaiian izakaya" refers to small servings, which is the majority of the menu. A teriyaki cheeseburger, a lobster roll, and a superb sea is also available.
The drink menu features tropical beverages that are only available in Los Angeles. Fresh fruits and purees are used in the cocktails, with a focus on the current trend in LA spirits: agave beverages made withmescal or tequila instead of rum.The bartenders press their own fresh fruits and vegetables for their 'skinny' afternoon cocktails.
Unused fresh-pressed juices are strained and cleared of fibers, then transformed into syrups that are used in some of the nocturnal drinks and slushies.
Like several of the other restaurants in the group, Belles easily transitions from day to night (Elephante in Santa Monica and The Eveleigh in West Hollywood). After dinner, those who stay late for drinks can find themselves dancing up the disco ball with a DJ -just like in the 1970s- and a DJ spins Thursday through Sunday nights.
