Voted #1 Human Grade Dog Food brand by USA Today
Want to improve the quality and longevity of your dog’s life but not pay human food prices? Freshly cooked human-grade dog food is the answer. Its surprisingly easy (and cost efficient) to give your dog the best.
We take an in-depth look a PetPlate, NomNomNow, Spot & Tango, and MyOllie to see which one is the best fresh dog food option available today.
Below are the prices for each*
1. PetPlate – From $1.43 per day or $0.56 per day for the half portion topper plan
2. MyOllie – $6.57 + per day*
3. NomNom – $7 + per day*
4. Spot & Tango – $5.27 per day or topper plan which is a half portion, is $2.85/day*
5. Bezzie – $2.32 per day or dry kibble for 51cents per day

The Competition
All brands reviewed are custom dog food delivery services that bring your pup fresh, human-grade food free of by-products and artificial ingredients, but not all are equal in our opinion. PetPlate was delivered in pre-portioned containers which we loved, it doesn’t keep you guessing about meal size.
Let’s look at why PetPlate was rated the #1 choice by USA Today and us;
- BEST PRICE – Pet Plate is competitively priced at between $1.43-$9 per day which was amazing value
- RECYCLABLE – Containers are recyclable rather than single-use plastic, saving the environmental cost. This container also makes it easier to seal leftovers
- TOPPER PLAN – This saves on cost and provides a happy medium cost-wise.
- PRE-PORTION – packed meal sizes made things extremely convenient
Features: PetPlate is made using only USDA-approved meats, fruits, and vegetables, and its prep facilities also pass the sniff test with the USDA.
Every batch is tested to ensure safety, and flash freezing makes delivering it to your home without spoiling simple.
The diet is designed by a trained veterinarian who specializes in nutrition, so you don’t have to worry about the soundness of the formula.
Simply enter your pup’s information, and PetPlate will calculate his/her dietary needs.
WHAT WE LIKED
- Transition Plan – Ollies offer a transition plan to help ease your dog onto the diet
- Sensitive to sensitive dogs – Ollie’s omission of corn, soy, and wheat is a huge benefit for allergy-prone doggies
WHAT WE DIDN’T LOVE
- SERVING – They include a scoop but feeding tends to get a little messy. Storing open packets between feedings.
- Price – Our dog was approximately $45.99 a week or $6.57 a day (not including any promotion)
- Frozen packages not for everyone, adds to prep time.
WHAT WE LIKED
- PACKAGING – The single-meal-sized bags make feeding clean and easy
- FIT FOR HUMANS – they boost amazing ingredients used without nasty additives
WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
- PRICE – Also, the price is not the cheapest but you get what you pay (slightly) more for
- FRESH FOOD – unlike dry or frozen food, you need to fit a week’s food in your fridge.
WHAT WE LIKED
- INGREDIENTS – reviews were positive for the ingredients
- PRE-PORTIONED – easy portioned size packs, and a scoop with dry kibble.
WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
- PRICE – Price wasn’t as low as PetPlate’s plan, but their fresh was cheaper than NomNom & MyOllie.
- ONLY FROZEN & DRY FOOD – not a fan of frozen, made prep time longer
- CUSTOMER SERVICE – we had trouble getting in touch with customer service by phone/email outside of 9-5pm EST
WHAT WE LIKED
- PRICE – Inline with Pet Plate
- PRE-PORTIONED – easy portioned size packs for their fresh “nosh” food.
WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
- CUSTOMER SERVICE – No phone line, no live chat (although both listed!), only email, and that was slow.
- DELIVERY – takes time to get your goods, I had to buy some generic brand in the meantime
