#1 Mattress: Quality, Price, Comfort
We’ve researched the mattress market to recommend the TOP PICK when it came to sleep comfort, value prices & fast delivery. Our top picks have been based on our product usage of 30 days, other customer online reviews & the brand’s customer service.
After careful consideration our TOP PICK? Purple.
Read our review below.
The Competition | Purple #1
Why Purple is the best mattress on the better than the competition.
Unlike the competition that contract manufacture off-shore (mostly China), Purple are a domestic manufacturer, with 1500 American employees, which is why they make beds unlike any of the others.
Sure, Purple are not the cheapest on our review. But it is certainly why we’re not the only ones that also rate Purple #1. They’ve won the JD Power Award, they’ve ranked highest in customer satisfaction 2 years in a row, including five factors: comfort, price, support, warranty and customer service.
Purple wants is a mattress for all types of sleepers, no matter if your preference is to sleep on your back, side, or stomach.
Purple are a digitally-native vertical brand with a variety of well designed and manufacture innovative products, including mattresses, pillows, cushions, frames, sheets and more. Their products are the result of decades of innovation and investment in proprietary and patented comfort technologies and the development of our own manufacturing processes.
Purple’s proprietary Hyper-Elastic Polymer® gel technology underpins many of their comfort products and provides a range of benefits that differentiate Purple’s offerings from other competitors’ products.
The company’s patented “Smart Comfort Grid” design is amazingly supportive while still feeling soft. I’ve never felt anything like it.
The grid consists of walls that will either “support or fold” depending on your body’s pressure points. It will flex in trouble areas, such as hips, back, and shoulders, but hold the shape in other areas. This translates into the best support we’ve ever experienced in a mattress.
The Smart Grid design helps limit motion transfer, so as your sleeping partner moves around, you won’t feel a thing (my wife is it’s biggest fan!).
The grid also promotes airflow, which will keep the mattress cool and increase your level of comfort.
In contrast, the All-New Purple mattress represents a hybrid design that sandwiches a layer of traditional support coils between layers of foam. The outer layer in the All-New Purple is customizable. Customers can choose the thickness that’s most to their liking.
The Purple mattress is at the higher end of the cost scale for foam mattresses. To us that makes sense, especially given the company’s focus on research and innovation. That said, you can find Purple mattresses at a range of price points to fit your budget.
They market and sell their products through their direct-to-consumer online channels, traditional retail partners, third-party online retailers and our owned retail showrooms.
Their engineers took the top five features found in luxury retail mattresses and combined them to make one perfect mattress. From the durable dual steel coil support system to the organic cotton cover, their Saatva Classic’s signature features mean exceptional comfort.
Their Saatva Classic Innerspring blends the highest quality materials found in traditional stores with the convenience and affordability of buying on the internet. Shop with Saatva online and save over $1,000.
A little price than Purple, if you have the budget to burn. Also, this is just a totally different sleeping experience to Purple. I prefer the support of the Purple far more.
They designed the Casper mattress to be versatile, so it can work with all standard foundations. As with all foam beds, you want as much direct support under the mattress as possible. For optimal support under all sizes (Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal king), they suggest using the Casper foundation.
These guys are not bad, customer service was pretty awesome, but Purple is just a better quality sleep. It just edged them out for overall quality, in our opinion. We just slept better on the Purple
Beautyrest Black line has become synonymous with truly indulgent, restorative sleep.

Beautyrest Black is our premier line, and proudly features our greatest innovations, so you can wake up feeling your very best every day. It doesn’t come cheap, but it is a nice sleep. Also, customer service was only “ok”, if we’re honest.
The DreamCloud mattress is a luxury hybrid that has been helping people sleep in style for years. It offers an excellent balance of comfort and support because of its plush pillow top and supportive coils. However, their price meant that Purple won out on the balance of comfort & value.
Premium memory foam mattress hugs your body and keeps you cool. Free shipping and free returns, and a 365-night Home Trial. That’s a long trial!
The quality and price are lower than the Purple, but that’s not to say we didn’t like, we did. Just preferred the Purple.
The Purple Grid is designed to dynamically flex under pressure so your shoulders and hips are cradled while your back is fully supported.
The Purple Grid has thousands of open air channels that feel cool as you lie down and neutralize your body heat through the night so you sleep comfortably cool all night long.

None of the Purple™ Bed Frames require an extra box spring or foundation. As for other bed frames, this depends on your particular bed frame and your specific mattress. Purple’s high-quality bed frames are designed to securely support your mattress without a box spring. For the most part, however, you’ll want to use a box spring with a traditional bed frame and innerspring mattress. In fact, many mattresses won’t honor their warranties unless you use them in tandem with a box spring, so make sure you know what your mattress manufacturer requires. Depending on the design of the mattress, using it without a box spring can lead to serious harm. However – some more modern and innovative mattresses, like those from Purple, are designed to be used without a box spring so long as you have a strong, supportive bed frame. If you have a memory foam mattress, poly foam mattress, or Purple Bed, no box spring is required on most modern bed foundations. But why would you want to use anything other than a Purple mattress, anyway? If you’re using a platform bed frame or an adjustable bed frame, you’ll likely want to choose a mattress that doesn’t require a box spring in order to provide you with the right kind of support and comfort. Platform bed frames already offer the kind of support the box spring would typically provide, and an adjustable bed can’t accommodate a box spring because the box spring can’t, you know, adjust.
At Purple, you can find a well-made, sturdy, reliable and fashionable Metal Platform Bed Frame for as little as $129, or if you prefer an adjustable frame, the popular Purple PowerBase starts as $1399. Purple has also launched the new Purple Foundation, which features a stylish upholstered bed frame at a price point starting around $429. The great thing about bed frames is that you can find them at just about any price point — it depends on the quality of materials and craftsmanship. You can get economy bed frames that are very inexpensive, but also flimsy quality, or you can go to the other end of the spectrum and get elegant, hand-crafted bed frames that cost a pretty penny. We’ve seen ranges anywhere from less than $100 to more than $5,000, so you have quite a lot of wiggle room to meet your budget. Bed frames at the higher end of the cost spectrum may include features like adjustability, expansive under-bed storage, luxury bed rails, and an extravagant headboard and footboard. While pricey, the right bed frame can help you get the best night’s sleep possible — especially if you’re dealing with issues like sleep apnea, snoring, or other health challenges that an adjustable frame can help meet.
All Purple bed frames have headboard attachments – including the metal platform frame, the Purple Foundation, and the Purple PowerBase. Headboards are not included, but we do provide all the right brackets and accessories you will need to attach your own. This is a great question – and it all depends on the type of headboard and the type of bed frame you have. Typically, attaching your headboard to a modern bed frame is fairly simple and requires only a few tools. We’ll walk you through some of the most popular options. Before you buy a headboard, verify the distance between the struts to make sure it will fit your frame. You can check the back of your bed frame for any bolts or screw holes and measure the distance between them. You’ll also want to measure width and height so that you choose a headboard that fits proportionally. Headboards work best when they sit up to three inches past the frame corner in width and roughly 14 inches above the top of the mattress. Then, find the headboard bolts on your frame, and screw your new headboard into place. The process is roughly the same for floor-standing headboards as well – they attach to your frame via the bolts provided, but they are designed to rest their bases on the ground once attached.
Like a good casserole, bed frames can be made of a little bit of everything. Most commonly, bed frames are made of wood, metal, or some combination of the two. You can find a metal bed frame made of steel, while some have solid wood slats. A minimalist bed frame goes well with a variety of bedroom furniture. Many people prefer having a metal frame that is upholstered. The new Purple Foundation is an example of this kind of bed frame. The frame’s supports are made of high-density polyethylene, so they don’t creak make noise like wood does. Plus, the joints of the Purple Foundation are reinforced with nylon buffers to help prevent squeaking. To top it all off, the accompanying slipcover gives you a beautiful, polished, upholstered look.
In general, you want to keep it pretty simple and get the bed frame that matches the size of your mattress. If you have a twin size mattress, you can go for a twin size frame, and the same goes for a double mattress or a queen mattress. Things can get a little tricky if you have a king size mattress. Make sure you’re clear on whether you have a standard king size or a California king size. The frame sizes are slightly different between those two – so they’re not interchangeable, and you can find different frames to fit these two slightly different king sizes.
Make sure your headboard size complements the size and proportion of your bed frame. As a general rule, you want your headboard to be the same width of your frame — or no more than 3 inches wider. However, some adventurous bedroom designers prefer a canopy bed with extra-wide headboards that are twice the width of the bed frame. It’s really up to you. When it comes to height, you typically don’t want your headboard to extend more than 14 inches above the top of your mattress, especially for a twin size bed. But for decorating purposes, you really can go as tall as you like, though most decorators would counsel against going for a headboard that’s taller than the bed is long.
For the most part, bed frames will allow you to attach a headboard – and if you go with a metal bed frame from Purple, we include all the right brackets and accessories to make attaching a headboard easy. It’s hard for us to say for sure about ANY bed frame, but chances are that if you have your heart set on a headboard, you can find a way to make it happen. Keep in mind that not all headboards are actually attached to bed frames – some are attached directly to the wall. So even though they provide the same look and feel as a headboard attached to your frame, you don’t have to worry about having all the right accessories included with your bed frame to make that happen.
Purple is the best mattress tech advancement in 80 years. No lie. Their mattresses and pillows come with free delivery, free returns, and a 100-night trial. Their mattresses are made of a “hyper-elastic polymer” in a grid configuration rather than memory foam.
The hyper-elastic polymer grid is said to provide greater airflow and pressure point relief than traditional memory foam mattresses, providing a cooler sleep and better support.
